Abohar, September 2
The Abohar police have tightened the noose around scrap dealers who buy stolen goods without verifying credentials of sellers.
Recently, the police recovered three stolen bikes on the basis of interrogation of two miscreants, besides recovering heavy goods stolen and sold by them. Cops also nabbed three scrap dealers in this regard.
Maninder Singh, In-charge, City 1 Police Station, said on August 29, they had nabbed Vicky Singh of Johari Mandir Road and Mohinder Kumar of Alamgarh with a motorcycle without a number plate. On the basis of their interrogation, the cops recovered three bikes.
The police claimed that the accused admitted that they stole iron, brass and copper items and sold them to the scrap dealers. Maninder said they held three scrap dealers — Garvit of Bhagwanpura, Surinder Kumar of Kerakhera and Surinder Singh of Uttam Nagri.
He said they recovered 1.5 quintal iron gate, brass utensils and 5 kg copper wire from them. A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 303 (2) and 317 (2) of the BNS.
The police said they were keeping tabs on mobile shop owners as addicts often sell snatched cellphones to them.
