After the district authorities released their two months’ salary, tipper drivers and contractual sanitation workers of the Abohar Municipal Corporation ended their strike today.

Today, drivers and workers could be seen collecting garbage from houses and shops throughout the day.

According to a rough estimate more than 25 tonnes of garbage is generated daily in the city.

Work of lifting garbage has started, said the workers, adding that all trash would be lifted within two days.

Due to the strike, locals could be seen throwing garbage in unoccupied residential plots near Maharana Pratap Market in Nai Abadi and other places, besides the specified dump that shares the boundary wall with the JP Park. This resulted in mosquito breeding, said the irate residents.
