Abohar: A youngster along with his mother allegedly used a sharp-edged weapon to kill his father at Bhompura village. SHO Dinesh Saharan said Reshma Devi, wife of deceased Ram Ratan, had left him two years back and she came back four days ago. On Tuesday night, the couple got into an argument and their son Bhajan Lal and Reshma allegedly attacked him, claimed the SHO. The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the IPC. OC

One dead, 4 hurt in accident

Abohar: Veena Rani, who was heading to Ludhiana along with her husband Raj Wadhera of Gharsana in connection with their daughter’s marriage, died on the spot after their car collided with a truck in Sriganganagar on Wednesday. Raj, who also suffered crticial injuries, was admitted to the hospital. In the second incident, three persons were injured after a pick-up van collided with their car on Seetogunno Road in Abohar. Farmers threaten protest

Chandigarh: The Kirti Kisan Union has threatened to hold a protest in Chandigarh on June 28, demanding canal water availability throughout the year. This was decided at a state-level meeting of the union on Wednesday. They also demanded restoration of riparian rights of Punjab over its river waters and curbs on flow of industrial waste flow in rivers. TNS

Man held for wife’s murder

Abohar: Puran Ram Valmiki, who had fled after allegedly murdering his wife (Kamlesh Rani) in Sriganganagar, was arrested by the police at Killianwali village near Abohar. He was produced before a court at Raisinghnagar, which sent him to the two-day police custody on Wednesday. Kamlesh was pulled out of a reservoir on Monday morning and was rushed to a hospital in Sriganganagar where she succumbed.
