Despite repeated appeals from MLA Sandeep Jakhar and former MLA Arun Narang, the 100-bed Sub-Divisional Civil Hospital in Abohar continues to struggle with a severe staff shortage. Sources reveal both representatives have met with successive Health Ministers on several occasions, urging them to fill two vacant gynaecologist positions, along with other specialist roles.

However, their efforts have yet to bear fruit, leaving the hospital staff with no choice but to refer caesarean cases to private hospitals. In fact, the hospital referred 11 such cases to private facilities in November and 16 in October.

At present, the hospital has two male surgeons; however, in the absence of a gynaecologist, they are unable to perform caesarean sections in the maternity ward. Furthermore, anaesthetists are only available for two days a week, which has led to a backlog of pending cases.

Senior Medical Officer Neerja Gupta said the hospital has repeatedly appealed to higher authorities for the appointment of a gynaecologist, but the problem remains unresolved.
