Chandigarh, July 10

The Aam Aadmi Party has welcomed the decision of the Punjab and Haryana High Court to open the Shambhu border where farmers have been sitting on a dharna for the past several months. The party said the demands of the farmers were justified so the Centre should consider fulfilling these instead of stopping them on the border.

On Wednesday, senior leader and spokesperson of the Aam Aadmi Party Punjab Neel Garg said before becoming the Prime Minister in 2014, Narendra Modi had said he would waive the entire debt of the farmers and make a law on the MSP as per the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission. But Modi went back on his promise, so the farmers were forced to go to Delhi, he said. He said when the farmers had called off the Delhi stir, Modi had declared that a committee would be formed on the MSP and work would be done towards making it legal, but till date he had not fulfilled the promise ha had made to the farmers. Had the Modi government enacted a law on MSP, the farmers would not have started ‘Dilli Chalo’ movement again.

He said the High Court intervened in this matter, otherwise the highway would have remained closed indefinitely. Now, after the court’s decision, both people and farmers would get relief.
