Faridkot, September 1

Members of several Sikh organisations today protested in Kotkapura against the state government for not granting permission to prosecute Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim and his associate Honeypreet in the 2015 Bargari sacrilege incidents.

Though a case had been registered under Section 295-A of the IPC against the dera head and Honeypreet, the state Home Department was not granting permission to prosecute them, said the protesters.

They accused the AAP government of shielding the dera head like the Congress and SAD-BJP governments.

“As per revelations made by Pardeep Kaler, who is an accused in the sacrilege cases, it’s clear that the dera head is the main culprit in the sacrilege incidents. However, the leaders use these incidents only to grab votes and do nothing after coming into power,” added the protesters.

The state governments had neither punished the perpetrators nor did the victims’ families of Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura police firing incidents had got justice, said Sukhraj Singh, whose father died in the police firing incident.

Speaking on the transfer of sacrilege and police firing cases from Faridkot to Chandigarh, the protesters said the witnesses now had to travel to Chandigarh to give their statements.
