AAP leader shot in Patti, aide injured
In a poll-related incident, AAP leader identified as Rajwinder Singh Raju (32), a resident of Talwandi Mehar Singh, was shot dead near Thakarpura village, near Patti town, today. His aide, who was travelling with him in his car, sustained serious injuries.
A gangster — on social media — has owned responsibility of the killing of the AAP leader, citing it as revenge for a five-year-old killing of two men in Patti.
Raju, along with his aides, was on his way back to his village from Patti. When he reached the church at Thakarpura village, three motorcycle-borne men signalled him to stop. Then, they congratulated him over the unopposed election of the village panchayat. Suddenly, they opened fire at him from close range. He was brought to a private hospital at Patti where the doctors declared him dead.
Kanwalpreet Singh, DSP, Patti, said that a case was being registered.
