On Day 1 of the three-day ‘Pulse Polio’ campaign, Health Department workers reached out to kids living in slums on Sunday.

A former official of the Lions Club, Abohar Greater, said it had been a challenging task to administer pulse polio drops in slum areas long ago, but the situation has now changed due to awareness campaigns being a healthy trend.

The campaign was started by Senior Medical Officer Neerja Gupta and nodal official Dharamveer Arora by administering drops at the Civil Hospital. Many women turned up at the postpartum unit in the hospital to get kids immunised. The officials then dispatched teams to 77 booths and 9,277 kids were given drops by the afternoon.

She said 308 employees had been put on duty under the leadership of 15 supervisors in this campaign and apart from this, ASHA and anganwadi workers and students from nursing institutions were also contributing in the drive.
