The by-election in three wards of the Hoshiarpur Municipal Corporation is scheduled for December 21. A total of 8,762 voters in Wards No. 6, 7, and 27 will cast their votes to elect new councillors.

The seats became vacant after Brahm Shankar Jimpa was elected as MLA from Ward No. 6, and the deaths of the Congress councillors Paramjit Kaur (Ward No. 7) and Gurmeet Kaur Hundal (Ward No. 27).

MLA Brahm Shankar Jimpa is supporting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidates in all three wards. Former cabinet ministers Sunder Sham Arora of the Congress and Tikshan Sood of the BJP are working to secure victories for their respective parties.

While Congress has filed its nominations, AAP has yet to announce candidates for these wards, although sources suggest that Jimpa’s brother, Rajeshwar Dayal Babi, may contest from Ward No. 6.

The deadline for filing nominations is December 12.
