Eight nambardars have been suspended for failing to prevent burning of paddy straw in the district. Besides, cases have been filed against three employees under Section 14 of the Commission for Air Quality Monitoring (CAQM) in the court of judicial magistrate. The administration has written to the departments concerned to suspend them.

Giving this information here today, Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Rishi said red entries had also been made in the revenue records of 34 farmers who had burnt paddy straw in their fields.

The DC said 738 farm fires were recorded till October 30 last year, while the number stood at just 259 this year, hinting at positive response to awareness campaigns being run by the civil and police administration.
