5 held for theft at Sangrur gun house, 14 weapons recovered

The district police today cracked a theft case in which 16 weapons were stolen from Chanchal Gun House, situated opposite district administrative complex (DC office), in the wee hours of January 13. The stolen weapons included five .32-bore pistols, five .32-bore revolvers, five 12-bore guns and one 30-bore rifle. A case was registered on January 13 under the IPC and Arms Act at the city police station, Sangrur, in this regard.

The police have arrested five persons in this regard from Patran and Mansa and recovered 14 weapons (five pistols, five revolvers, three guns and a rifle) from them. A motorcycle, an electrical cutter, a hammer and a rod have also been recovered by the police. Besides, the police have also recovered 30 cartridges stolen by the accused from another place. Two guns are yet to be recovered.

Harcharan Singh Bhullar, DIG of Police, Patiala Range, said here today that the names of five arrested are Pawandeep Singh, alias Pamma (Patran), Amandeep Singh, alias Aman, (Todarpur village in Mansa district), Malwinder Singh (Patran), Sandeep Singh, alias Giani (Patran), and Gurmeet Singh (Todarpur village in Mansa). They had stolen the weapons from the gun house to execute the incidents of loot, he said.

The DIG further said that Pawandeep had a criminal record as nine cases were already registered against him while there was a case against another accused Gurmeet Singh under the NDPS Act at police station, Boha (Mansa). He also said that three of the accused were in Nihangs’ attire at the time of crime.
