340 Sangrur jail inmates test positive for drugs
Sangrur, July 26
A total of 340 inmates out of the 966 lodged at the Sangrur Jail tested positive for drugs in a dope test conducted on them. The Health Department has sent the report to the Prisons Department for further action.
“We organised a special camp at the Sangrur Jail and conducted dope test on 966 inmates. Of them, 340 tested positive. I cannot disclose which drug they consumed, but they tested positive in the dope test,” said Senior Medical Officer Dr Baljeet Singh.
Sangrur Civil Surgeon Dr Parminder Kaur said they had been running a clinic at the jail complex for the treatment of addicts (inmates) and if the need arises, they would make more arrangements.
Manjit Singh Sidhu, Superintendent, Sangrur jail, said, “Of 340 inmates, 85 per cent are undergoing treatment, while the remaining have completed their course. They consume de-addiction medicine. That’s why they tested positive for drugs.”
