33 nabbed, 29 cases registered during search ops in Ropar
The police have so far arrested 33 persons and registered 29 cases during 12 cordon and search operations (CASO) in Rupnagar.
Rupnagar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gulneet Singh Khurana said the police had registered 126 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, against those involved in illegal drug trade from January 1 this year to September 30, and arrested 180 accused.
He said 80 gm heroin, 1.9 kg opium, 23 kg poppy husk, 941 pills/capsules, 229 syringes, 2.5 kg drug powder, 68 kg ganja, 1.4 kg cannabis and 1,27,550 drug money had been seized from the accused.
The SSP said persons involved in cases related to possession of commercial quantity of drugs or habitual offenders had been identified and that action was being taken against them.
He added that regarding the attachment of case properties, three proposals of 68-F NDPS Act had been sent to New Delhi, all were confirmed.
He further said the police had reviewed sensitive locations and increased patrolling at night. Besides, meetings had been conducted with the market associations to appoint watchmen, he said.
