Three wild pigs were last night shot and killed in Jhurarkhera village, 20 km from here, allegedly by three persons, when the animals were swimming in the canal. The police said preliminary investigation indicated two people ran away with two dead pigs, while when a third person tried to pick up a dead pig, someone reached there, and the erring man had to leave the pig there and

run away.

The team of the Wild Life and Forest Department has taken possession of the dead pig, and a case has been registered against the suspect, Buta Singh, and two unknown associates under the Wild Life Protection Act, 1972. The forest department officials said a search has been started for the suspects who fled the spot.

Forest Range Officer Mangat Ram said he received information that late yesterday evening, three wild pigs were flowing in the canal in Ramsara Minor (sub-canal) passing through Jhurarkhera village. He said Buta Singh of a ‘Dhani’ (cluster of houses) in Jhurarkhera village and two other persons shot the animals dead, adding that after killing the pigs, two people ran away with the dead pigs, whereas when Buta Singh started picking up the pig, a farmer came there because of which the miscreant fled.

The official said he, along with guards Khushwant Singh, Shivalika, and Ramandeep, reached the spot, picked up the dead pig, and brought it to the department’s office. He said today the dead pig was presented in court, where the judge has asked for a postmortem of the body. He said a panel of three doctors was formed under the Veterinary Officer, Dr Mandeep Singh, for this purpose.
