299 Punjab employees being shifted from Covid labs

The state government has started the process to shift 299 employees, who were hired from May 2020 to June 2021 to test suspected Covid cases at six Covid-19 laboratories in the state.
These employees include 38 research scientists, 36 research assistants, 72 data entry operators, 34 laboratory attendants, 103 laboratory technicians and 16 multi-task workers and safai sewaks.
Working at six Covid-19 testing laboratories in the state, these outsourced employees are now being shifted to 20 laboratories in district hospitals and three government medical colleges.
These employees worked for nearly two years at the virus research and diagnostic laboratories at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital at Faridkot, the government medical colleges at Amritsar and Patiala, the Covid-19 viral testing lab at Northern Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, Jalandhar, Forensic Science Lab at Mohali and the VRDL at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University in Ludhiana.
As per the directions of the state government, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences in Faridkot has conducted counselling of all these 299 employees to shift them on the basis of merit. Demanding their absorption into the Department of Medical Education, many employees in medical colleges had earlier gone on a strike.
