27 days on, farmer union ends ‘pucca morchas’ at toll plazas
After 27 days, the “pucca morchas” organised by the BKU (Ekta-Ugrahan) at two toll plazas in Kalajhar and Chotian villages of Sangrur district ended today. The morchas were started on October 17 in protest against tardy paddy procurement, shortage of DAP fertiliser and red entries in the revenue records of the farmers for burning paddy stubble.
A large number of farmers, including women activists, took part in these protests.
BKU (Ekta-Ugrahan) leader Harjinder Singh Gharachon from Kalajhar toll plaza morcha said the union had ended the pucca morchas at all 26 toll plazas across the state.
He said now the union had chalked out a programme to help farmers in the grain markets and at purchase centres where their paddy was not being purchased by the government agencies on the pretext of high moisture content.
He said they would educate villagers that they should adopt the path of struggle in place of voting system for the bright future of coming generations.
Rinku Moonak, another BKU leader from the Chotian toll plaza morcha, said they had also ended the pucca morcha. Now they would visit grain markets where paddy was not being procured, he added. They would also gherao inspectors of procurement agencies for not purchasing paddy.
