2 members of Bambiha gang held in Dera Bassi
The Punjab Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) in a joint operation with the Mohali police apprehended two operatives of the Davinder Bambiha gang and seized two pistols and seven live rounds from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav here on Wednesday.
Those arrested were identified as Harinder Singh of Mehmadpur village in Mohali and Gurjinder Singh of Varana in Mohali. The suspects reportedly worked on the instructions of USA-based Kulveer Singh, alias Lala Benipal, an aide of absconding foreign-based gangster Lucky Patial.
Benipal had earlier orchestrated two attacks in Mohali, including one on a financier in September 2023 and other on a rival gang member in December 2023, he added.
Preliminary investigations revealed that they were tasked to carry out a series of crimes in the tricity.
Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Deepak Pareek said police teams had inputs that Benipal had deputed his gang members to carry out criminal activities in the tricity.
Joint teams of the AGTF and the Mohali police traced the accused and arrested them near Mubarakpur Focal Point.
A case under Section 111 of the BNS and Sections 25(6)(7) and 27 of the Arms Act has been registered at the Dera Bassi police station.
