2 dead, 19 passengers injured in bus accident
In a tragic incident, 21 passengers heading from Chandigarh to Bathinda on a PRTC bus suffered injuries after their vehicle met with an accident near Bhawanigarh on Friday night. Of these, two passengers died during treatment at the Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala.
The deceased have been identified as Gurpreet Kaur, a resident of Tungawali village in Bathinda, and Rajinder Kumar of Balad Kalan village near Bhawanigarh.
The accident happened after a canter suddenly came in front of the bus and the driver lost control over the vehicle, which veered off the road.
Bhawanigarh Senior Medical Officer Dr Vinod Kumar said 21 injured passengers were admitted to the Community Health Centre. He said two passengers were discharged after giving first aid, three persons were referred to the Sangrur Civil Hospital and 16 passengers were referred to the Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala.
Bhawanigarh SHO Gurnam Singh said, “Of 16 passengers referred to the Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, two persons succumbed to their injuries.” He said a case had been registered against driver of the canter on the statement of injured passengers.
