What was projected as death due to an overdose of liquor four days earlier has turned up to be a planned murder to maintain alleged illicit relations with the wife of the deceased. Gurdeep Singh, father of three children, in Mohar Sona village in Fazilka, was found dead on Wednesday evening in a field. The relatives cremated the body as they claimed he died due to an alcohol overdose.

The next day, some villagers got suspicious and asked his wife, Shimla Rani, to file a complaint to the Sadar police station at Fazilka about his death; however, she refused to do so. The villagers reached the police station and asked them to investigate the matter.

After investigation, the police registered a case under Sections 103 and 61(2) of the BNS on the basis of the statement by a relative of the deceased, Malkiat Singh, of Noorshah village. He alleged that Gurdeep’s wife was having illicit relations with Sukhwinder Singh Sona of the same village. The police said they have arrested both suspects.
