2 AAP workers injured in firing at Jalalabad
Tension flared outside the Block Development and Panchayat Office in Jalabad when two Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers were injured in a shooting incident, with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) workers being blamed.
Mandeep Singh Brar, a sarpanch candidate from Muhammad Wala, was injured after shots were fired into the air by unidentified individuals. AAP MLA Jagdeep Kamboj Goldy accused Vardev Singh “Noni” Mann, son of former MP Zora Singh Mann, of involvement.
Brar and another injured individual were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Jalalabad. Brar, who suffered a chest injury, also blamed Noni Mann. Due to the severity of his condition, Brar was later referred to Ludhiana.
The shooting followed an altercation between Brar and Mann after a meeting at the BDPO office regarding a local land dispute involving the Mann family’s school. The police are reviewing CCTV footage, and a case will be registered once statements are recorded.
MLA Goldy alleged that the Akalis were resorting to such tactics due to a shift in the political atmosphere.
