14 students injured as bus falls into gorge in Morni

A bus ferrying 45 schoolchildren fell into a gorge at Tikkar Tal in Morni on Saturday afternoon.

Though 14 students along with a bus driver were admitted to the Panchkula Civil Hospital with minor injuries, the tour planner whose legs got crushed was referred to the PGIMER, Chandigarh.

The students of Malerkotla-based private school were on a day-long trip to Chandigarh and Panchkula.

The incident took place around 1:30 pm as two buses carrying students of Nankana Sahib Public Senior Secondary School, Malerkotla, were on their way to Morni Hills. The bus ferrying 45 boys suddenly fell into a gorge at a turn.

Bus conductor Nandan Singla, who suffered an injury on his eye, said the bus was being driven at a normal speed. “We also could not understand how the accident occurred. The bus suddenly rolled down the gorge. We have rescued the students and admitted them to the hospital.”

Panchkula Chief Medical Officer Mukta Kumar said 14 students had been admitted to the Civil Hospital. She said, “Legs of one of the victims were crushed. He has been referred to the PGIMER, Chandigarh. Some of the students have received cuts and other injuries. We are conducting X-rays and providing all necessary treatment to the injured students.”

Kalka ex-MLA Pardeep Chaudhary also rushed to the spot and helped in shifting the students to the Panchkula Civil Hospital.
