Punjab women commission to write to DGP over Channi’s sexist remarks

Punjab State Women Commission would write to DGP, Punjab, for necessary action against MP Charanjit Singh Channi for his alleged derogatory remarks against women, after he "failed" to appears on the second show-cause notice issue to him.

Commission Chairman Raj Lali Gill said the MP had been issued show-cause notice twice on his official email. The Commission would wait for the MP to appear before writing to the DGP.

The MP has so far failed to appear before the Commission and on Tuesday tendered his apology while taking to mediapersons at his residence.

"If anyone's sentiments have been hurt, I apologise with folded hands." said the Congress leader, adding that, "I can never think of saying anything against women. I am not against anyone. Whosoever is hurt, I apologise,"

Taking suo motu cognisance of a video of Channi circulating on social media, the Commission had on Monday issued the show-cause notice to him for making alleged derogatory remarks against women and two communities while campaigning for Congress candidate Amrita Warring in Gidderbaha for the assembly bypolls.
