Punjab Speaker Sandhwan visits Himachal Vidhan Sabha
Shimla, July 25
The Speaker of the Punjab Legislative Assembly, Kultar Singh Sandhwan, visited the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly and met Himachal Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania. During the meeting, Sandhwan briefed him about the parliamentary procedure and procedural activities of the Punjab Legislative Assembly.
Following the meeting, Sandhwan, along with the chairpersons of both committees of the Punjab Legislative Assembly, also observed the session. During this occasion, Pathania briefed them about the e-Vidhan system and the glorious history and traditions of the state’s Legislative Assembly.
Pathania said that the Council Chamber was constructed between 1920 and 1925 for the National Assembly and Union Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was elected as the first Chairman of the National Legislative Council. “The proposal to grant women the right to vote was also passed here,” he said. The Speaker further said that the state’s Legislative Assembly has its own independent secretariat, which was also established by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Sandhwan praised Pathania for the upkeep of the building and also congratulated him on the e-Vidhan system. Both the Speakers also paid a courtesy call to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu at the Himachal Pradesh Secretariat, where Punjab’s Speaker briefed him about the functioning and activities of the Punjab Legislative Assembly.
