Punjab senior b'minton championship from Nov 30
The much-awaited Punjab State Senior Badminton Championship is set to start from November 30 to December 2 at Raizada Hansraj Badminton Stadium.
The event being hosted by the District Badminton Association (DBA), Jalandhar, will have winners receiving cash prizes worth Rs 2 lakh. The official poster for the event was unveiled on Saturday by Dr Himanshu Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner and president of the Jalandhar District Badminton Association.
Speaking about the event, Ritin Khanna, Secretary of DBA and former national player, revealed that the championship will see around 200 players from across Punjab competing in men’s and women’s categories in singles, doubles and mixed doubles events. Matches will be officiated by the BAI-approved referee Vilas Hans and his team.
The winners of the championship will earn the honour of representing Punjab at the National Badminton Championship in Bengaluru in December, where they will compete at the national level.
The championship will be inaugurated by Swapan Sharma, Commissioner of Police. Four players from Punjab — Tanvi Sharma, Radhika, Manya Ralhan and Jagsher Khangura -- will be honoured for their achievements in the sport and their contributions to Indian badminton.
Khanna also shared that special arrangements for food have been made for all participants, ensuring their comfort throughout the competition.
