Punjab Police step in as viral video shows young Amritsar woman struggling to move after she 'injects herself with smack'
Chandigarh, September 12
As Punjab faces the drug problem, the video of a woman reportedly captured in Maqboolpura locality of Amritsar has gone viral.
The young woman seems unconscious as she stands in the middle of the road. She struggles to move but her condition is so bad that she cannot even take a step.
A man who was making the video spoke of the sad state of the locality, which is notorious for drug abuse and has many addicts.
In the video, the man is heard saying this condition of the woman is allegedly because of the dose of smack she injected in her.
Maqboolpura has earlier also reported many incidents related to drug abuse and many de-addiction ‘drives’ have been launched by the police in the area.
A search operation was carried out by the police in the locality on Sunday after the video went viral.
Three people have been rounded up and drugs seized from them. A case has been filed.
A day after the incident, Police Commissioner Arun Pal Singh said the Punjab government is religiously trying to tackle the problem of drug abuse in the state. He said the person who captured the video should have informed the police than uploading it on social media.
He said when they got information about any crime, the police immediately acted on it. He said that since April 1 they had registered 483 cases under the NDPS Act, in which 650 people had been arrested. He said it was impossible to eradicate drugs from the state unless they had the people’s support. He said Maqboolpura is the hotspot of the drugs-related crime.
