Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria begins tour of border districts
Governor Gulab Chand Kataria began a tour of border districts from Fazilka today. He visited Jodha Bhaini village in Jalalabad subdivision and said the Governor House would establish a direct contact with members of the village defence committees (VDCs) to know the exact situation of border districts.
Addressing members of these committees, he exhorted them to hold at least one meeting every month. He announced to depute a nodal officer to ensure liaison between administration officers and villagers for keeping eye on anti-social elements.
Very few villagers from border areas were invited to attend the meeting. Journalists were, however, not invited to cover the event.
Kataria said the neighbouring country had understood very well that it could not complete with India, thus it was trying to further its nefarious designs by sending drugs and arms through drones.
He said the VDC members had been performing their duties with dedication and all those providing information about anti-social elements would be honoured. “If all people work together, we will be able to thwart the nefarious designs of the neighbouring country,” he added. Besides Governor, Abohar MLA Sandeep Jakhar, Jalalabad MLA Jagdeep Kamboj, alias Goldy, also addressed the committee members and villagers.
Principal Secretary VK Meena, Additional Chief Secretary to Governor K Siva Prasad, Ferozepur Divisional Commissioner Arun Sekhri, DIG Ranjit Singh Dhillon, Fazilka DC Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu and SSP Varinder Singh Brar were also present on the occasion.
