BJP leader and former MP Shwait Malik claimed Punjab was going through a tragedy. Elaborating, he said the tragedy was that the state was functioning with an invisible Chief Minister, who had earlier taken ill and later become invisible due to which the Delhi lobby was running the state. Malik said this at a conference in Hosiarpur. He was here on his first visit after he was appointed the incharge of Chabbewal constituency by the party.

He said there was speculation about the Chief Minister being replaced. He said, “We have seen the Aam Aadmi Party murder democracy in the state.” The elections for the urban local bodies were pending for around two years, while those of panchayats for one year. The panchayat elections were only being conducted after the intervention of the court, he said. “Ever since the AAP came to power in Punjab, they have not fulfilled a single promise. Those who used to say they will solve the issue of farmers, give jobs to the youth and give the status of holy city to Sri Anandpur Sahib have been let down.” He alleged they were dancing to the tunes of the mafias.
