The Punjab Government has decided to strengthen observation posts of the Army and BSF along the International Border with Pakistan.
After seeking approval from the Home Minister, the National Disaster Management Authority and the Central Water Commission, the state advisory board has given its nod to the project, which is estimated to cost Rs 170 crore.
The Irrigation Department has been tasked to strengthen 28 flood-prone observation posts. Falling in Amritsar, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran and Ferozepur areas, the posts often suffer damage due to floods in Ravi and Beas rivers.
