The 65th Panjab University Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival Zone-2 Ludhiana commenced on Tuesday at Government College for Girls, Ludhiana, in which students from 26 colleges of Ludhiana participated in various competitions. The theme for the youth festival is ‘Unity in Duty, Excellence in Service’. Ludhiana West MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, Ludhiana Assistant Commissioner Kritika Goyal and Youth Welfare Director Dr Rohit Kumar Sharma were the chief guests for the day. College Principal Suman Lata formally welcomed the chief guests and the dignitaries.

Gogi emphasised on the need for the youth to reconnect with Punjab’s rich heritage. The contribution of the young generation was important in making the state Rangla Punjab again, this could be possible only when the youth would get the right guidance of their principals and teachers, he added.

Addressing the participants, Kritika Goyal said the youth were full of energy and enthusiasm and they were the future of our country. Such youth and heritage fests play an important role in the youth’s progress and in developing human values. Sharing her experience during the training at LBSNAA, she told that she felt nostalgic on remembering how she performed gidda, jago there. On the occasion, she said such platforms were important for the personality and overall development of the students.

Sharma formally inaugurated the youth festival and highlighted that these festivals helped foster personal development, cultural appreciation and also helped in channelising the energy of the youth. Panjab University provides a large platform for the youth to showcase their skill while promoting cultural heritage. He added 29 out of 64 competitions in this youth fest were related to heritage items. Punjab University is the only university in the state which organises such a large number of heritage competitions. Mentioning Chief Minister Bhagwat Mann, he said great personalities emerged from these youth festivals. He applauded the efforts and dedication of Principal Suman Lata and said it was her greatness that she accepted such a big event.
