Property tax: Bus terminus mgmt seeks time till Nov 30 to pay Rs 6.33 cr dues
The Interstate Bus Terminus (ISBT) authorities have requested the Shimla Municipal Corporation to extend till November 30 the deadline for paying the pending property tax to the tune of Rs 6.33 crore.
The ISBT owes Rs 6,33,31,840 property tax to the corporation. Apart from the bus stand, the ISBT building houses several eateries, a multiplex, hotels and shops.
Shimla Municipal Commissioner Bhupiner Attri said the corporation was yet to grant additional time to the ISBT authorities for the payment of the property tax.
“We have asked them to give an appropriate reason for seeking an extension. A decision will be taken after getting the reply,” the MC commissioner said, adding that the ISBT management had failed to pay up despite several notices.
Earlier, the corporation had granted the ISBT time till July 31. It agreed to give one month more after the management sought another extension.
The corporation had issued the final notice to the ISBT management under Section 121 of the HPMC Act, 1994, directing it to pay the property tax by August 31.
During the monthly meeting of the corporation in August, councillors had expressed concern over the non-payment of the property tax and had asked the corporation to take stringent measures to recover pending amount.
