Project report on 10-km stretch of NCR e-way to be ready by January

The work of preparing the detailed project report (DPR) of the Faridabad-Noida- Ghaziabad (FNG) expressway is under progress and is likely to be finalised by January. The Expressway will link the three satellite towns in the NCR—Faridabad, Noida and Ghaziabad.

Though the project was announced about five years ago, work on the ground has remained stuck due to various reasons, which include the DPR preparation, the issue of fund sharing and the process of land acquisition for the project. The construction of 10-km-passage in Faridabad and Noida districts was needed, according to sources in the PWD, which has been assigned the work in Faridabad district. While the total length of the expressway is reported to be around 32 km, the majority of the portion that lies in Uttar Pradesh has already been constructed. Its length in Faridabad is reported to be around 6 km only.

The state PWD released the work order for preparing the DPR to a consultant agency in March this year; the work of preparation was started in May with a timeline of about six months, according to officials concerned.

The matter has remained in a state of abeyance for over four years due to no clear directions regarding the implementation of the project. It required the involvement of more than two departments or agencies, it is claimed. The state government had also approached the NHAI to take over the project as it is an interstate project, but no positive response was received from the central agency.

Claimed to be a joint venture of Haryana, UP and the Union Government, the budget of the FNG expressway is expected to remain around Rs 800 crore. The fee of the consultant for the DPR has been fixed at around Rs 60 lakh, revealed an official. The FNG e-way will reduce the travelling time by one third between Faridabad and Noida and Ghaziabad, which are important satellite cities of the National Capital. This will be the fourth expressway that will emanate or conclude in the district. With the KGP expressway already functional, work on the Delhi- Mumbai expressway and Greenfield expressway (Faridabad-Jewar airport) is underway.

Pradeep Sindhu, Executive Engineer, PWD, said that while the work of preparing the DPR was on, it is expected to be ready in January as four out of the six-month period allotted for the preparation of project details are already over. He said the total budget involved and the fund sharing would be revealed after the finalisation of the DPR.
