Prof Mohan Singh fair concludes with cultural performances, awards ceremony
The 46th Professor Mohan Singh Memorial International Punjabi Cultural Fair in memory of Prof Mohan Singh concluded here yesterday.
The fair was organised at Dr AVM Public Senior Secondary School. It was inaugurated by Punjab Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian. Personalities who have contributed significantly to Punjab and Punjabiyat were honoured on the occasion.
Navjot Singh Jarg and his colleagues presented Punjabi traditional songs while Dhadi, Kawishri and folk dances were presented by the students of the host school.
Patron of the foundation Pragat Singh Grewal said that Baba Bohar of Punjabi mother tongue, Jagdev Singh Jassowal, had started this fair in memory of his close friend, Prof Mohan Singh.
The fair started yesterday after offering floral tributes at Prof Mohan Singh’s statue. A seminar and Kavi Darbar was held at Punjabi Bhavan. Today, an open arena of Punjabi traditional singing was organised at Dr AVM Public Senior Secondary School. Meanwhile, schoolchildren also presented other cultural activities, including Bhangra and Giddha.
Famous folk singer Muhammad Sadiq honoured the personalities including Jyoti Nooran, who holds a special place in Punjabi Sufi singing, Deep Dhillon and Jasmine for duet singing. NRI Punjabi poet Harjinder Kang, Olympian Harwant Kaur, NRI Punjabi poet Nirmal Singh from the United States of America, Deep Dhillon and music director Tejwant Kittu were felicitated with various awards.
After the felicitation ceremony, cultural performances were given by Jyoti Nooran, Deep Dhillon and Jasmine, folk singers Ravinder Grewal, Atma Budhewalia, Jaswant Sandila, Shalini Jamwal, Happy Dehlon and Love Manjot.
