Problems of sanitation workers should be resolved on time: Panel vice-chief
Anjna Panwar, Vice-Chairperson, National Commission for Safai Karamcharis, said under the Swachh Bharat Mission, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sat and ate with sanitation workers (safai karamcharis) in Prayagraj to give them honour.
She said the sanitation workers had a huge contribution towards cleanliness in the country. She was addressing a meeting of officials of the district administration held in the District Secretariat here on Thursday.
She said the sanitation workers had small problems which should be resolved on time and they should be paid their salary in the first week of the month.
“Sanitation workers have to do risky work at some places and it may affect their health, therefore it is mandatory for them to get a full body checkup done twice a year. Every sanitation worker should have a good quality identity card in which their blood group, PF number and number related to the medical facility should be recorded,” said Panwar.
She said every sanitation employee should have a uniform according to the weather like a sweater or jacket in winters and raincoat.
“There should be a changing room at the main place of the sanitation workers, separate for women and men so that they can change their clothes there,” said Panwar.
She said the sanitation employees should be made aware about all schemes of the state government and the Central Government in the camp. A compensation of Rs 30 lakh is provided on the death of a sanitation worker, Rs 10 lakh on temporary disability, Rs 20 lakh on permanent disability and Rs 30 lakh in case of death.
She directed the Public Health Engineering Department officers to give a compensation of Rs 30 lakh to the family of Devraj, a sanitation worker who died inside sewage.
She said the compensation amount should be given to his family within a month.
On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Captain Manoj Kumar, Superintendent of Police Rajiv Deswal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ayush Sinha, SDM Jagadhri Sonu Ram, DMC Municipal Corporation Dr Vijaypal Yadav, DDPO Narendra Singh and DIPR Dr Manoj Kumar were also present.
