Chandigarh, July 26

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Haryana Government to ensure construction was not raised by “any set of persons” on the land designated for a Primary Health Centre in Mehlawali village in Yamunanagar district. The interim order follows allegations that some persons relocated a statue of Dr BR Ambedkar from a temple to the land intended for the health centre, intending to raise construction there.

The order follows allegations that some persons relocated a statue of Dr BR Ambedkar from a temple to the land intended for the health centre.

The Bench of Justice GS Sandhawalia and Justice Meenakshi I Mehta also issued notice of motion to the state and other respondents for October 24. Notice was also issued to the individuals regarding the relocation of the statue back to the temple.

Appearing before the Bench, Rajesh Kumar Garhia and other petitioners through counsel Amit Sharma contended that a resolution was passed in March last year for constructing the Primary Health Centre on the gram panchayat land.

The land was to be transferred in the name of Yamunanagar Health Department for constructing the building after the proposal was sent to the Block Development and Panchayat Officer for necessary approval. But some individuals/private respondents removed the statue from Guru Ravidass Mandir in the village and relocated it on the land where the dispensary was to be constructed. They wanted to raise construction on the land.
