President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday hailed late Sitaram Yechury’s vast contributions to Indian politics and said Yechury had a distinct influential voice.
“Though a committed ideologue, he won friends cutting across party lines,” Murmu said. PM Modi described Yechury as a leading light of the Left and said “he was known for his ability to connect across the political spectrum”. UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi recalled how the Left leader remained uncompromising in his commitment to the values the Constitution embodied. Former J&K Governor NN Vohra said: “Over the years I had got to know Yechury well. He was an intellectual parliamentarian, perhaps among the last of the generation who were guided by the tenets of constitutional morality. His departure is a great loss.”
