Amritsar, April 19

Appreciating the Centre’s move to observe the 400th anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadur at New Delhi, several Sikh activists appealed the government release Sikh political prisoners, who have completed their sentence, and protect historical Sikh shrines to mark the event.

The activists, including Prof Baljinder Singh and Dilsher Singh, have jointly written a letter to PM Narendra Modi in this regard.

Prof Baljinder said Guru Teg Bahadur sacrificed his life to save Hindus from Aurangzeb’s tyranny. “The government observing this event will have more impact if they get the Sikh prisoners released and also make efforts to preserve Sikh shrines in other states,” he said. —
