Praveen Vashista, a 1991 IPS officer of Bihar cadre, who is currently the additional secretary in the ministry of home affairs (MHA), has been appointed as special secretary, internal security, in the ministry.

He will be an OSD till the retirement of Sivagami Sundari Nanda, who is currently special secretary, internal security. Her retirement is due on December 31, 2024.

According to an order issued by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC), Vashista will hold the charge of special secretary till his superannuation on July 31, 2026. Nanda is a 1988 batch IPS officer of AGMUT cadre. She is also in charge of the cyber security wing of the MHA, I4C (Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre). She was also the first woman DGP of Puducherry.
