Chandigarh, September 23
Several sectors in the city witnessed power cuts for four to five hours today, causing inconvenience to residents, shopkeepers and office-goers.
In Sector 19, owners of showrooms and booths had to bear the brunt of a power cut around 11 am. The Sector 19-27 lights were non-functional, causing traffic snarls at the intersection. “I had just opened the shop when there was a power outage. What will an electric appliances shopkeeper do without electricity,” asked a Sector 19 shopkeeper.
Non-functional traffic lights at the Sector 21/22/34/35 intersection spelt traffic chaos on the busy road in the afternoon.
There was a scheduled power cut in Sector 45, 52, 61, Burail and parts of Kajheri from 10 am to 2 pm.
Similarly, there was a scheduled power cut from 10 am to 3 pm in Sector 8-B and from 10 am to 4 pm in Sector 23, 39 (West) and Sector 21-D. Residents of most southern sectors have been experiencing long power cuts for the past two-three days due to maintenance work.
School kids are the worst sufferers as their online classes get affected. “There was a six-hour power cut in Sector 53 yesterday, making it difficult for the elderly and children to bear the humidity,” said Anjana Salaria, a college lecturer.
