Besides other things, roads have taken a centre stage in the Radaur Assembly segment.

The Shadipur-Jathlana-Gumthala road, which has been in a bad condition for a long time, and the Yamunanagar-Radaur-Ladwa road, which has not been made four-laned despite repeated demands, pass through the Radaur segment and are considered two of the main roads of Yamunanagar district.

Neglected for long

  • Shadipur-Jathlana-Gumthala road has been in a bad condition for a long time
  • Yamunanagar-Radaur-Ladwa road has not been made four-lane despite several requests

These two main roads have become an election issue in the Radaur segment this time, causing an embarrassment for the ruling BJP.

The Shadipur-Jathlana-Gumthala road connects Yamunanagar to Karnal. The 20-km stretch of this road that falls in Yamunanagar district has been lying in dilapidated condition for a long time. Dotted with big potholes, this road seems missing at a number of places. More than 50 villages of Radaur are connected directly with this road, which is vital to connectivity between the two districts of Yamunanagar and Karnal.

Though the construction work of this road has been allotted to a company, the construction work is yet to start on it.

Similarly, the Yamunanagar-Radaur-Ladwa road connects Yamunanagar city to Kurukshetra and Karnal. It covers a huge area of Radaur constituency and is considered a lifeline of Yamunanagar district. It is the primary route to Delhi via Karnal and to Kurukshetra via Pipli.

Thousand of vehicles pass through this narrow road at a snail’s pace, causing inconvenience to motorists. “All state governments have ignored the demand of the residents of Yamunanagar to make Yamunanagar-Radaur-Ladwa road four-laned. The BJP government, which has been in power for the past 10 years, has also failed to fulfil our demand,” said Anil Kumar, a resident of Yamunanagar.

He said he had to use Shadipur-Jathlana-Gumthala road to visit their fields regularly as it was difficult to commute on this badly damaged road.
