Hoshiarpur, February 19

Garhshankar’s BJP candidate Nimisha Mehta and another person from the Assembly constituency have been booked. The action has been taken by the Hoshiarpur District Election Officer over an audio of the candidate attempting to lure voters with liquor and money to cast their votes in her favour.

The District Election Officer came to know about the alleged audio of BJP candidate Mehta talking to a person over phone. In the audio, she was purportedly addressing a person as “mama ji” and talking about giving liquor and money to voters.

District Election Officer Apneet Riyait said an FIR against Nimisha Mehta and another person had been registered under various Sections of the IPC and the Representation of Peoples Act. — OC


1,563 polling parties dispatched in hoshiarpur

Hoshiarpur: As many as 12,87,837 voters will decide the fate of 65 candidates here on Saturday. About 1,563 polling parties were dispatched to 1,563 polling booths amid tight security for polling on February 20. District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait reached Pandit Jagat Ram Government Polytechnic College to encourage the polling parties and said they should feel proud that they are going to be part of the electoral process.
