The Delhi Police arrested two persons connected with gang activities in possession of illegal firearms with one of them on way to murder a rival gang member, police officials said on Monday.
The Special Staff of Outer North District apprehended Ankit, alias Sawan, a 25-year-old member of the notorious Gogi gang, who was reportedly on his way to murder a rival gang member in retaliation for the killing of his associate, police said.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North) Nidhin Valsan, the operation was part of a broader crackdown on active gang members and sleeper cells in the district. “Our team acted swiftly on credible intelligence. Ankit was intercepted and a country-made pistol with a live cartridge was recovered from him,” the DCP said.
During interrogation, Ankit revealed he had obtained the firearm from another gang member, Bholu, on instructions from gangster Monty Maan, the official added. The communication, facilitated through the Signal app, directed Ankit to retaliate for the murder of Gogi gang member Amit Lakra. An FIR has been registered under the Arms Act, and further investigations are underway to trace other associates involved in the plan.
In another incident, personnel from Narela Police Station arrested Rahul Kumar during a routine patrol near the CNG petrol pump in Sector 7, Narela. “The suspect was found carrying a country-made pistol and live cartridge.” DCP Outer North said.
Both Ankit and Rahul have a history of involvement in violent crimes. Ankit was previously named in an attempt to murder case at Alipur Police Station, while Rahul was implicated in another attempt to murder case at Narela Police Station.
