Police nab three for snatching cellphone
The Civil Lines police have arrested three persons who had robbed a local resident of his mobile phone five days ago. While two of the suspects identified as Jai Pal Singh (20) of Pandori Waraich and Gurjant Singh (20) of the area backside of Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Majitha Road, were nabbed on Sunday, their third accomplice Sukhraj Singh (18) of Vallah was arrested on Monday.
Jai Pal and Gurjant used to work at a factory in Bal Kalan village while Sukhraj works at a saloon. According to the police, they were hooked to drugs and therefore they indulged in snatching. The police have recovered a snatched mobile phone and a motorcycle used in the crime.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (North) Maninderpal Singh said on September 10, complainant Harmeet Singh, a resident of Gillwali Gate area, was going from Novelty Chowk to Crystal Chowk when three bike-borne persons snatched his mobile phone. The Civil Lines police station had registered a case in this connection.
Following investigations and scanning the footage of CCTVs installed at various chowks and roads, the police identified and arrested the accused, said the ACP. They were produced in a court and brought on police remand for further investigation. More cases are likely to be solved during the interrogation of the accused, he added.
