Jammu Police foil four bovine smuggling bids, 112 animals rescued

Jammu Police on Monday foiled four bovine smuggling bids and was able to rescue 112 animals.
“Tightening its noose against bovine smugglers under ‘Operation Kamdhenu’ in Jhajjar Kotli, Jammu Police foiled three bovine smuggling bids in wee hours on Monday in which 78 bovines were rescued and three vehicles were seized at Suketar naka point,” an official said.
During checking, truck bearing registration number JK19A-7444 was found carrying 25 bovine animals, another vehicle (JK02CL-1144) was loaded with 33 bovine animals and a canter (JK19A-3199) was loaded with 20 animals without any valid permission.
The driver of a vehicle (JK02CL-1144) was arrested, who has been identified as Manzoor Ahmed Wani, a resident of Gool in Ramban, while other drivers fled from the spot leaving behind their vehicles.
An FIR under Section 223 of the BNS 11 PCA Act have been registered at Jhajjar Kotli police station.
One more bovine smuggling bid was foiled by Nagrota police in which 34 bovines were rescued and a truck was seized. The driver of the vehicle was arrested on the spot who has been identified as Sharief Khan, a resident of Hari Marot Surankot in Poonch district. A case has been registered and further investigations are underway.
