Ahead of the upcoming Municipal Committee (MC) elections, Jalandhar Rural Police conducted extensive flag marches in the poll-bound towns of Bhogpur, Bilga, Shahkot and Goraya on Thursday. The marches, led by Superintendents of Police (SPs), Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and Station House Officers (SHOs) from the respective areas, were accompanied by large contingents of police personnel.

Jalandhar Rural SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh addressed the media after the marches, stating that the show of force was intended to boost voter confidence and deter any potential anti-social elements from disrupting the electoral process. “The objective of these flag marches is to ensure peaceful, free, and fair elections in all four towns under our jurisdiction,” Khakh said.

The flag marches featured a strong police presence, including rural rapid response teams, PCR motorcycles, police riders and various other specialised units, all aimed at demonstrating the police’s preparedness for the upcoming elections.

As part of the security measures, the police placed PCR teams and patrolling units on high alert in the four towns and surrounding areas. Additionally, a special verification drive of recently released prisoners was launched, with regular checks being conducted at their residences.

Earlier in the day, a comprehensive review meeting was held to brief police personnel about election security protocols. The police administration also urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or the Police Control Room.
