Police circulate youth’s picture who shot himself outside Golden Temple

The unidentified youth who shot himself outside Golden Temple in Amritsar.

Three days after an unidentified youth shot himself outside Golden Temple plaza near Darbar Sahib, the police have circulated his pictures on various social media platforms requesting people to share any information about him.

The youth had snatched a cop’s pistol and shot himself in the head to end his life on Sunday. He was rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed. The police did not find any identity proof or mobile phone from his possession. The police officer, ASI Ashwani Kumar, was outside Golden Temple plaza on VIP duty.

Earlier, the police had circulated his pictures for identification, but no clues had been received till now.

Apparently, the victim had suicidal tendencies and the police found cut marks on his veins. He was later booked for snatching ASI Ashwani Kumar’s pistol.

In his complaint, he said that he was present on duty with other policemen when a man came near him, took out his 9mm service pistol and fled towards Shani temple. Kumar said he chased the youth and caught him, but he shot himself in the head. He was immediately rushed to Guru Nanak Dev hospital.

Harsandeep Singh, SHO Kotwali police station, said the deceased’s picture has been circulated on various social media platforms and media for his identification. Any information about the youth can be shared at mobile numbers 9781130205 and 9781130219.
