Tarn Taran: Police bust interstate extortion gang, 2 held

On the complaint of doctors who received ransom calls on phone recently, the police have claimed to have busted an interstate extortion gang.
Those arrested have been identified as Prinsh Kumar (21) of Siswa Mauje village and Vikas Kumar (22) of Sewarahan village in Lukarian tehsil, East Champaran district (Bihar). The police found laptops, mobile phones and fake IDs on social media.
A case against unidentified persons was registered for threatening and demanding ransom. In view of sensitivity of the matter, the Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, directed Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detective) Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar, Deputy Commissioner of Police Prabhjot Singh Virk, Assistant Commissioner of Police, North, Varinder Singh Khosa to supervise the investigation.
During investigation it was established that ransom calls were being made by cyber criminals, who were trying to extort money from doctors by posing as gangsters. A team of four police personnel headed by ASI Malkiat Singh was sent to Bihar to trace and arrest the accused.
The team succeeded in arresting two of the cyber criminals, who were demanding ransom from doctors during a joint operation with the Bihar Police.
