The Jalandhar rural police arrested a proclaimed offender (PO), wanted under the NDPS Act, from Tamil Nadu. The arrest was made over 2,600 km away as part of the ongoing campaign to crack down on drug traffickers and criminal elements in the district.

The arrested accused has been identified as Sunil Kumar of Uggi, Nakodar. He was declared a proclaimed offender on May 1, 2019, by the court in connection with an FIR under Sections 22/61/85 of the NDPS Act at Nakodar.

Speaking on the success of the operation, SSP, Jalandhar rural, Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh, said the relentless efforts of the police team, combined with inter-state coordination, led to the arrest of a fugitive who had been evading the arrest for years.

This achievement demonstrated the commitment of the Jalandhar police to ensure that no criminal finds refuge, no matter how far they attempt to flee.

The accused Sunil Kumar had fled abroad to Malaysia after being declared a PO. However, he returned to India on August 27, 2024, and landed at Tiruchirappalli Airport, Tamil Nadu, where he was detained by the airport authorities.

Acting on the information, a police team in collaboration with the local authorities in Tamil Nadu, arrested Sunil Kumar. He was then brought back to Jalandhar. The operation was part of a special drive initiated under the leadership of DSP, Nakodar, Kulwinder Singh Virk.

The accused will be produced in a local court and the police will seek his remand for further investigation into his involvement in drug trafficking and to uncover any potential connections with other criminal networks.

The Jalandhar police have made significant progress in apprehending proclaimed offenders (POs) and absconders involved in various crimes. A total of 140 accused have been arrested, including 21 for heinous crimes in 98 different cases, the SSP said.
