PM SHRI scheme: 14 Sirmaur schools selected for upgrade
The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) organised a meeting today to discuss the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM Shri) scheme. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Sumit Khimta and was attended by school principals, School Management Committee (SMC) heads, Cluster Head Teachers (CHT) and other representatives from the education sector.
Addressing the participants, Khimta highlighted that the scheme was a Central Government-sponsored initiative aimed at enhancing school education in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The primary focus of the scheme was to create an inclusive and nurturing environment for students, ensuring their welfare and safety, while providing high-quality infrastructure and diverse learning experiences.
Under the scheme, 14 schools in Sirmaur district have been selected for upgradation. These schools will be equipped to offer students a safe and stimulating environment for learning, along with necessary physical infrastructure and resources. Khimta emphasised the importance of upgrading facilities in these schools to ensure students received a qualitative educational experience.
The Deputy Commissioner also directed the formation of committees for effective implementation of the scheme, focusing on improving the schools’ infrastructure and student-related facilities.
Monika, the nodal officer for the PM SHRI scheme, briefed the attendees about the agenda of the meeting and provided insights into the scheme’s implementation. She proposed the formation of block-level committees and suggested that regular meetings should be held to review progress.
Furthermore, she recommended the inclusion of key educational officers in monthly meetings and emphasised the importance of appointing a district-level nodal officer, conducting regular visits to PM SHRI schools and creating digital records for students through DigiLocker and Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry IDs.
DIET Principal Himanshu Bhardwaj, along with school principals, District Project Officers (DPOs), Block Project Officers (BPOs), Block Elementary Education Officers (BEEOs), SMC heads and local Panchayat representatives were present during the meeting.
