In a mega pro-tribal push amid ongoing Jharkhand and upcoming Maharashtra elections, Prime minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced the Centre's decision to set-up Jana Jatiya Parks in all Scheduled Caste dominated districts of India.
Modi made the announcement in Jamui, Bihar where he addressed a massive rally and announced projects worth over Rs 6,000 crore to benefit tribals.
Modi said the government will set up Jana Jatiya Parks in all ST dominated districts as a mark of respect to the memory of tribal hero and freedom fighter Birsa Munda whose 150th birth anniversary celebrations commenced from today.
Earlier Government had declared November 15 as the Jana Jatiya Gaurav Divas to mark Birsa Munda's birthday.
Tribal votes are key to the prospects of parties contesting Jharkhand and Maharashtra elections.
Jharkhand first phase poll was held on November 13 and second phase will be held on November 20 when Santhal Pargana, home to majority ST reserved seats of the state will poll.
In Lok Sabha polls the BJP performed poorly in both Jharkhand and Maharashtra failing to secure ST votes on the back of Congress campaign that the ruling dispensation wants 400 seats in Lok Sabha to change the Constitution and abolish reservation meant for SCs, STs and OBCs.
This narrative the BJP is countering a aggressively in state polls with Modi asking marginalised segments not to get divided. Ek hain to safe hain, he has been saying.
