PM Modi offers shramdaan at Delhi school, praises students

Prime Minister Narendra Modi commemorated the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission by participating in a cleanliness drive (shramdaan) at NDMC’s Navyug School in Pandara Park on Wednesday. The event, part of the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ campaign, saw the Prime Minister joining school students in a symbolic gesture to promote cleanliness and environmental responsibility.

Reflecting on the milestone, PM Modi said, “Ten years ago, on this day in 2014, we launched the Swachh Bharat Mission with the dream of a clean India. Today, I am proud to see how far we have come in turning this dream into reality. The involvement of young students in this campaign is a testament to the fact that the future of India is in responsible hands.”

The Prime Minister also visited an exhibition of creative works by students, based on the theme of 3 Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), and told them about the importance of ‘swachhta’ in everyday life. He encouraged the students, stating, “You are the torchbearers of this movement. It is through your efforts that we will continue to keep India clean and green.”

Students performed a Swachhta song, which was appreciated by the Prime Minister, who also engaged them in a conversation about the benefits of yoga, asking some of them to demonstrate asanas.

NDMC chairperson Amit Yadav stated, “It is a great honour for us that the Prime Minister chose NDMC’s Navyug School for this significant occasion. His words of encouragement to the students will have a lasting impact.”

Several other senior leaders participated in similar drives across New Delhi. Member of Parliament Bansuri Swaraj took part in shramdaan activities at Sarojini Nagar, while DoPT Minister Jitender Singh joined the campaign at Nehru Park. NDMC has been at the forefront of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, which started on Sept 17 and concluded on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2. “The campaign’s theme this year—’Sanskar Swachhata, Swabhav Swachhata’—emphasizes making cleanliness a natural habit,” added Yadav.
